The River Dolphin Hotel name is inspired by the iconic Irawaddy dolphins that live in the Mekong River near Kratie. River Dolphin features an alternative lodging experience from that found in the Khmer guesthouses in the town center and along the river. We offer a resort style property including attractions such as our swimming pool and sundeck, tropical garden with a stocked fish pond, full service bar and restaurant, and rooms catering to Asian and western tastes and standards. Our clientele is a mix of western and Cambodian travelers and tour groups. Many local people enjoy eating and drinking in our restaurant.
Even though we are a short distance from the town center, the ambiance is quite different. The surrounding landscape includes rice paddies and a typical small Cambodian village. Many guests like to walk or cycle through the village to experience Cambodian daily life up close. The people are friendly and welcoming and the children are sweet and curious. In the dry season there may be traditional wedding celebrations in the village and sometimes our guests join in. Round trip transportation to the town center is always free from 6 am to 10 pm.
The hotel opened in April 2014. Many of the construction workers were friends and extended family of Cambodian hotel owner, Rin Chamnan, or live in the small village around the hotel. Some of the original construction workers are now hotel staff. We receive many comments from our guests regarding the friendliness and helpfulness of our staff and their continual efforts to make each guest’s stay enjoyable.
